Richmond Orthodontics

Treatment for children

Our practice has been established since 1980 and is dedicated exclusively to orthodontics, involving the correction of problems of growth of the face and jaws, as well as irregularities of the teeth.  The aim is to improve dental health, function and of course, facial and dental appearance.

Whilst consultations for children can be provided at any age, treatment is mostly carried out in the 10-13 year age group, although occasionally, there are indications for earlier treatment and a variety of both removable and fixed appliances can be used. Once the appliances are in place, children are  seen at regular intervals for adjustments, usually every four to six weeks and a comprehensive treatment on average, takes something in the order of 20 months to complete, although of course, treatment times can vary according to individual circumstances.
On completion of the appliance treatment, it is usually necessary to fit removable retainers to be worn full-time for the first six weeks or so, and then, part-time at home for a further period and we will continue to see the patient for supervision of these, until the retainers themselves can be discarded.

General Dentistry;
It is important that patients attending our orthodontic practice maintain regular contact with their dentist during treatment, four routine check-ups, etc.
